“This song is a little too personal to really go into,” Devin McKnight says of his new track, Power, which is streaming below from today. “It’s about being dependent and feeling slave to my psychiatric medicine. It’s also about taking ownership of my situation despite feeling like I’m not really in control of my own emotions all the time. Sometimes there’s great power in just saying no to something or ending a toxic situation on your terms.”

Taken from McKnight’s forthcoming new record, which is released next month via Exploding In Sound, “Power” finds the former Speedy Ortiz guitarist is a half-buried affair, a dense space where McKnights blurry vocal swims beneath Katie Capri’s more pertinent and infinitely brighter voice. Always battling against a heavy backdrop of skewed guitar noise, the track is anything but presentable and yet it wilfully digs itself in, wrapping a darkness around the listener that becomes more palpable with each passing minute.

The new record gets a full release next Friday, via EIS’ tape club, and features Capri (of GFP faves Fern Mayo) on two other tracks as well as other guest turns from Jordyn Blakely and Alex Molini.

Check out the heavy-hitting new track below right now.
