New Jersey’s Fond Han are sharing new single "Shuffled" today, the second offering from their upcoming sophomore album, Wronked. Due out October 5th via EIS (LP/Digital), the record is a wild ride to say the least, a fusion of artful punk, hardcore, fuzzy indie rock, free jazz, and experimental noise. It's a stunning record that reveals itself further with each repeat listen. Darting around with manic energy while tackling the heaviest of topics and depressive forces in a way that only comes natural to Fond Han's Thomas Baumann, Wronked is that magical kind of experience that has you believing in the unpredictable.
"Shuffled" is steeped in the wild animated experimentalism that makes Fond Han one of the most exciting and genuinely interesting bands. The song has a jazzy sort of stutter to it, with flooding noise, vocal textures that blend into the guitars and cascading drums, and a general sort of no-wave lack of concern for structure and clarity. It's a whirlwind, but it's developed as such, carefully constructed at every turn.
Recorded in Chicago with Seth Engel (Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Options) and New York with Michael J. Thomas III (Ovlov, Empress Of, Grass Is Green), the album features collaborations with Sen Morimoto, Alex Molini (Stove, Dirty Dishes, Titus Andronicus), and members of Chicago avant-jazz / post-rock collective Monobody. Wronked is a sea of ideas fused into a cohesive record, an exercising of demons and a new starting point.
